Hobbies#
Photography#
I started taking pictures with a Nikon FE around 1986. I took a lot of pictures of trains in my teenage years. Nowadays most of my photography is digital, I own a Fujifilm X100F that I absolutely love. My subjects are primarily landscapes and urban. I have a page on flickr and I am starting to post some of my favorite own work on this site as well.
Bikepacking#
Bikepacking is like backpacking, but instead of carrying camping and survival gear on your back, you strap it on a mountain bike and ride! I love bikepacking because you can cover more ground by bike than on foot, and beautiful places can be quite remote here in Utah. I've been on bikepacking trips with friends all over Utah and in Nevada. This report I wrote after a trip to Cathedral Valley in the fall of 2024 illustrates what a typical bikepacking trip looks like—although every trip has its unique challenges imposed by the terrain, weather, and the size and experience level of the group.
